Process of NYOKUM Celebration
NYISHI Indigenous Identity SocietyNyokum Celebration is the obligation of every Nyishi individual and society. Therefore, every like-minded nishi individual group or association of nyishi may celebrate the nyokum by involving in physically, financially, and morally with the following steps so that uniformity of celebration is maintained:
a) Date of Main Celebration: 23rd to 26th February.
b) Hoisting of Nyokum Flag followed by flag song on 23rd February or as determined by the local committee.
c) SEQUENCE OF MAIN DAY DISPLAY:
- Reception of invitees/delegates
- Display of Malevolent spirit(Ui)(Dwr-Solin nam) around the Soogw.
- Warding off Malevolent spirit(Ui) by Benevolent Spirit ( Good spirit) (Dwrruqxia Nam /Ui ruqxia nam).
- Tori Jolin Nam with Buya around the Soogw and slaughtering of animals.
- Retreat to the dais for public function (Cultural display and other activities may be planned within this public function).
- Nyokum Feast.
d) Nyokum Dapo Poonam ( Dapo Procession) may be conducted by erecting a nyokum Dapo at the main entry point to the place or area where nyokum was celebrated for that particular year.
e) Nyokum celebration for the particular year may be concluded by conducting nyokum Dapo
Poonam procession.
